Music was the theme for our Teen Read Week program in 1999. The Reading Rocks Music Revue was a coffeehouse program with a guest musician and a karaoke machine. Teens were invited to perform and sing along.
Books on musicians, bands, how to play instruments and sheet music were featured on a display table. A new music CD collection for the YA room was introduced for karaoke and all materials were available for checkout at the end of the evening.
The room was set up similar to the coffeehouse description in the Poetry Night link. The centerpieces for the paper-covered card tables were a black paper plate with Jelly Belly jelly beans and a candle in the center. A Jelly Belly menu stood on each table, music note confetti, black cocktail napkins and a coffee mug of markers finished the look. Large music notes hung from the ceiling.
Bookmarks were sent to the schools, letters sent to band and choir directors and flyers were distributed at the library to publicize this event.
